Locking wedges are used as mechanical elements in toolmaking to precisely position and fix slides when closing the mould. While the locking wedge moves the components into the correct working position, the pressure plate supports the slide and ensures that it can withstand the high forces during the injection process.
When manufacturing components with undercuts or other complex geometries, repeatable and stable support of the slide elements should be ensured.
If the wedge angle is too large, the holding force is reduced and the slide can move slightly during injection. This in turn leads to burr formation on the component. Wedge angles that are set too small lock the slide very tightly, but at the same time also cause unnecessarily high wear and, in the worst case, even breakage. The precise coordination of the wedge and the contact surface is therefore of crucial importance.
ZTime is a key factor for efficiency and competitiveness. The locking wedge VARIO solution enables precise adjustment directly on the injection moulding machine – without time-consuming dismounting. Adjustments can be made with minimal effort, significantly reducing downtime.
