Diamond-like carbon (DLC)

The coating in mould making

In the area of coated standard parts and special parts, KNARR takes on a pioneering role. The diamond-like DLC coating in particular has been promoted for well over a decade. The expertise gained and many years of experience gained allow the coating to be recommended without any gaps.

WHY DLC IN MOULD MAKING?

The advantages of the approximately one to two µ thick, metal-free carbon layer are obvious. Due to the significant reduction in susceptibility to wear and tear, the coating is particularly well suited for moving parts with high stress – such as round and flat ejectors, centering elements, guides, cores or slides. The resulting longer maintenance intervals mean longer service lives at the same time.

ORIGIN IN THE MEDICAL AND FOOD INDUSTRIES

Optimal dry-running properties are a decisive advantage. Due to its cleanroom suitability and its approval for use in food contact applications, the coating initially enjoyed great popularity, especially in the medical and food sectors. In the meantime, however, DLC parts are used across industries. The production of transparent parts or automotive parts that are later subjected to a painting process are further examples of the ideal use of coated standard parts.
